Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the decontamination formulation better than other methods?
There is no other product available with the capability to neutralize mycotoxins that is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable and environmentally friendly.

Is the air conditioning system (HVAC) affected by mold contamination?
The HVAC system is involved whenever there is an indoor air quality issue, either in a causational aspect (high humidity, drip pan, etc.) or spreading of spores. The entire HVAC system and vents should always be decontaminated. The EPA has approved use of MDF-500D in HVAC systems under EPA registration numbers 80346-4 & 80346-5.

Are the products used during the decontamination process EPA registered?

Will the decontamination process bleach out colors in fabric, such as curtains, bedspreads and carpeting etc.?
As with any product, you should test for colorfastness.  There have been no reports of staining, dyeing or bleaching when the process is implemented properly as a single liquid or fog solution.

What is the history of the D-CON System®?
¬Development of the original base formulation occurred during the period of January 1997 to July 1999. The initial development process focused strictly on the facility restoration scenario. In July 1999, field-testing of the base formulation began. In October 1999, the process to commercialize the decontamination formulation by licensing the product to private companies was initiated. IDS began developing the application techniques and protocols through Modec, Inc. in 2002.

Are IDS products a danger to the environment or to myself?
All products used in the D-CON System® are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable.

What structures does IDS decontaminate?
The MDF-500 formulation has been approved for use on medical facilities, restaurants, schools, hotels, commercial buildings, and government buildings under EPA registration numbers 80346-1 (Part A) 80346-2 (Part B).
